Following a year as European Culture Capital and becoming European Volunteer Capital 2018, Aarhus will again have the possibility to win a prestigious price. The city is nominated for European Innovation Capital . The main priprize is 1 million euros, and goes to a city, which is experimenting and implementing innovative practices the best possible way, engaging volunteers and by those means make the city an attractive place for other cities to find inspiration.
Aarhus is nominated for its ability to: Engage the citizens and give them responsibility in decision making, develop social welfare and experiment with innovative concepts and testing new technologies. Initiatives like Smart Aarhus, Dokk1, and Center of innovation are good examples of that. With the nomination and a possible new title the responsibility for developing innovation in Aarhus even further in the future follows.
“Aarhus consists of knowledge institutions, businesses, citizens and the municipality – and the close relationship and cooperation between them, is what makes us a strong, innovative city. The nomination of iCapital2017 is a great acknowledgment of the cooperative work in the city. We can all be very proud of the way we manage to work together,” says Mayor of Aarhus Jacob Bundsgaard.
Aarhus is nominated with Berlin, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Nice, Paris, Talinn, Tampere, Tel Aviv and Toulouse. The price will be given at a congress I Lisboa, Portugal, on November 7th. The winner will follow Amsterdamthat has carried the title since 2016.
